Get To know the Instructor

My name is Dexter Green, and my mission is simple: to educate, empower, and prepare responsible firearm owners through professional, practical, and safety-focused training.  With more than 30 years of combined experience in military service, law enforcement, and firearms instruction, I believe that owning a firearm carries an important responsibility. My goal is not only to teach people how to safely handle a firearm, but also to help them develop the mindset, judgment, and confidence needed to make sound decisions under pressure. I proudly served 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring in 2013 after a career as both an Aviation Ordnanceman and a Navy Career Recruiter. During my military career, I learned the importance of discipline, accountability, teamwork, and leadership—qualities that continue to shape the way I teach today. Following my retirement from the Navy, I served with the Elizabeth City Police Department, where I worked as a Patrol Officer, Detective, member of the SWAT Team, and as a Task Force Officer assigned to the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force. These experiences provided real-world knowledge that I now bring into every class I teach.

Education and Professional Certifications

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Criminal Behavior, along with an Associate's Degree in Business.

I am also a:

  • North Carolina Department of Justice Certified Firearms Instructor

  • NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

  • Certified Instructor in Basic Pistol

  • Certified Instructor in Rifle

  • Certified Instructor in Shotgun

  • Certified Instructor in Personal Protection in the Home

My Teaching Philosophy

Every student enters the classroom with a different level of experience. Some have never handled a firearm before, while others have years of shooting experience. Regardless of your background, you will be treated with patience, professionalism, and respect.

I take pride in explaining concepts in a way that is easy to understand. I encourage questions, provide hands-on demonstrations, and ensure every student leaves with a clear understanding of the material. My objective is not simply to help you pass a course—it is to help you become a safer, more knowledgeable, and more responsible firearm owner.
